GPS - LEVEL 1
Street‑Level Problem Solving
Understanding What Work Is
Level 1 is where the GPS journey begins—not with big ambitions, but with attention to the immediate world.
Learners are introduced to the idea that work is not something that happens only in offices or factories. Work happens wherever people are trying to improve situations, solve problems, or serve others. Streets, parks, neighbourhoods, and local markets become living classrooms.

What Learners Do
Learners engage in guided field observations, simple interviews, team discussions, and reflective documentation. They practice defining problems clearly and designing small, realistic interventions that are safe and appropriate for their age.
The emphasis is not on “fixing everything,” but on learning:
-
How to observe responsibly
-
How to work in teams
-
How to document and communicate clearly
-
How to take ownership of small tasks
Ecosystems Explored
Students explore environments they already know, but with a new lens. They learn how to slow down, observe carefully, and notice things they may have ignored before.
Typical ecosystems include:
-
Residential streets and neighbourhoods
-
Parks and community spaces
-
Playgrounds and local markets
This familiarity helps learners focus on how to think and work, rather than feeling overwhelmed by scale.
Competences Built
-
A basic understanding of what real-world work looks like
-
Foundational exposure to the 6D Work Cycle
-
Improved communication and collaboration skills
-
Discipline, empathy, and confidence
Season-Based Learning Structure
Level 1 is delivered across three seasons, with each season designed following the 6D Work Cycle.
To accommodate different learner needs, schedules, and institutional contexts, each season can be offered in three cohort styles, while maintaining the same learning depth and outcomes.
Cohort Delivery Styles
6 Weeks Cohort
This is the most common format, where learners engage with the program over six weeks. Sessions are spread out to allow time for observation, reflection, and gradual skill building. This format works well alongside regular school schedules and supports deeper habit formation.
1 Week / 6 Days Cohort
In this format, the entire 6-week season is delivered as an intensive, immersive experience over one continuous week. Learners work on the problem daily, allowing for high focus, momentum, and rapid iteration. This format is ideal for holiday programs, school intensives, or bootcamp-style experiences.
Weekend Sprint Cohort (3 Days)
Designed as a compact, high-energy experience, this format delivers the season across three consecutive days, typically over a weekend. Learners experience the complete 6D cycle in a short time frame, making it suitable for exposure programs, trial cohorts, or special workshops.
Regardless of the cohort style, the learning objectives, problem-solving depth, and outcomes remain consistent.
